Empire Cinema

There is already a modest little article on the memories site about the Empire and also a feature by Paul which includes pictures of the demolition. I can now inform you that currently there are a further eight biggish colour photographs of the cinema [internal and external] showing it towards the end of its 'life' on the Internet. You can see them by inputting the Google word search below.

Ushaw Moor Empire aka Winnings bar [ when inputting capital letters are not actually needed]

1 - Have many happy memories of the Empire and I can remember a number of people who worked there when I was a lad. Joe Fletcher who lived in Hall Avenue was the projectionist. The ownwer of the cinema parading the FA Amatuer Cup won by Crook Town. His name was Joe Aytley (or a similar name) and he owned the cinema. Many memories of the Club Hall cinema also but no mention of it on the website? (Comment this)

2 - I think Joe Hateley was the name of the owner. There are a few references to the Empire on the memories site but at the moment Paul seems to be doing a bit of maintenance on it so I cannot get at it to confirm that name.I believe there is also a comment on the site which would explain Mr Hateley's connection with Crook Town. (Comment this)
